Acclaimed Avengers‘ director Joe Russo has confirmed, the 4th film in the series will the longest Marvel film yet, clocking in at just over 3 hours of screen time.

The Hollywood Reporter recently spoke to Russo via live-stream, pressing him for details and updates on the film, those of which he isn’t sworn to protect.

“The running time on Avengers 4 is currently sitting right at three hours. We’ll see if that holds,” Russo told THR. Before setting off into a diatribe about the historic length of the film, he did warn against building expectations, the case being: the film’s runtime is likely to change before it reaches the penultimate phase.

“We’re about halfway through the editing process. We’re really just scratching the surface on our VFX shots.

There are more than 3,000 VFX shots in the movie; those require a lot of time and thought and energy and effort, and we’re very early in the phase of getting VFX done.

We’ve just started work with Alan Silvestri on the score, and we’re still editing picture at this point,” he added.

For those who don’t know, VFX is coded language for “visual effects.” You know the stuff that makes you jump out your seat? Avengers 4 is still on track to premiere in theatres on May 3rd, 2019
